Insight. Relief. Peace.

Feeling overwhelmed, worried and constantly on edge does not have to be the norm

Your stomach is in knots and the knots in your shoulders get worse by the day.  Sleep is supposed to bring some relief but you can count that out because your racing thoughts make it hard for you to get to sleep or stay asleep.  There is always the “mental to do list”  running through your mind, and it causes the anxiety to build to a point of no return.

You enter a thought spiral and it feels like you are losing control. It seems like you worry about everything and everyone and you are tired of the emotional exhaustion that it brings. The anxiety makes it hard to concentrate on any one thing for very long, or you continue to think about the same stressor over and over again.

You’ve heard that self care can help but just thinking of adding something new to your plate- potentially with new environments and new people- seems like more trouble than it’s worth.  You may have noticed that you don’t have the patience you once did and find that your relationships are struggling because of it.

Maybe you snap at your significant other, the kids, or maybe even the dog.  You pull away from people so you don’t have the opportunity to lash out or because it feels better to be isolated.  You are running on empty but won’t let the world know that.  Everything feels like it’s rolling down a hill and there’s nothing to stop you from picking up speed until you hit the bottom.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • At its worst, anxiety can present in the form of an anxiety attack, also known as a panic attack. Symptoms of an anxiety attack include sweating, feeling like your heart is racing, hyperventilating and having racing thoughts.

More generally, anxiety can also mean not being able to stop thinking about something specific, experiencing anger outbursts or irritability, or being on edge. Sometimes these symptoms also make it hard to sleep.

  • Everyone feels a little anxious at times, that’s part of being human. However, you should never feel like it’s something that you can’t handle or keeps returning. If it is interfering with relationships, health, your job, sleeping or daily life at all it is something that you should most likely seek help for.

  • Anxiety can be caused by many factors, including some that you might immediately be aware of as well as some that you might not. Some people experience anxiety as dread or irritability, which they would feel immediately while a small stressor like having to clean up again from the kids might not be felt right away but could lead to anxiety.

Usually, anxiety is caused by stress in our environment. We all experience stress but if we do not deal with it correctly that stress can turn into anxiety. You might think that you should be able to deal with the little bit of stress that you had today, however, if you haven’t been dealing with other stressors this little stress could push you over the edge and it might turn into anxiety.

It’s also important to know that some people are more predisposed to anxiety than others based on their genetics. If your parents were really good worriers, then you might be too. That does not mean, however, that you can’t take control of your anxiety.
